Quick post before I take off for California for work. This one come courtesy of Roger O’Donnell, former keyboardist for The Cure, The Psychedelic Furs, Thompson Twins and more. Beautiful and subtle record performed almost entirely on one instrument – the moog synthesizer. An accomplished player, O’Donnells advantage is perspective — having played with some of the biggest bands in the world but clearly a fan of new music. His compositions remind of vintage 70s (think Moroder, Vangelis, Blade Runner) but also hint of ambient-era Aphex Twin and more recent, contemporary work by Dntel and even Juana Molina. A gorgeous solo debut for someone who has benefited from his patience being a musical virtue.
RIYL: Plone, Plaid, Dntel, The Album Leaf, Sybarite, Laub, Vangelis, Autechre
