Marco Polo featuring Masta Ace

Thanks to Bastard Jazz’s head-honcho DJ DRM for this inaugural 2007 Summer jam alert! You may already know about New York via Toronto producer Marco Polo, but for those not yet familiar — and fans of golden-era mid-90s hip-hop — do not miss out on the automatic BBQ bangers on his new LP for Rawkus, Port Authority. There’s little not to love about “Nostalgia” from it’s shuffling neighborhood break, to the perfectly placed samples and scratches, to the selection of Masta Ace to bring it all together verbally. Always a favorite, Masta Ace shows that while hip-hop has inarguably devolved from where it once was, those that experienced the view from that particularly storied window are yearning passionately for its return. Look, I’m suffering from a dearth of timeless contemporary hip-hop just like the next guy, but certainly someone as invested in the game as Masta Ace is hoping for a paradigm shift with even more urgency. Now that the weather is here, expect more hip-hop in posts to come from new releases from the likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Kentaro, and more.
RIYL: Pete Rock, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Bootcamp Click, Nicolay, Madlib

Hey, guys. I’ve been a fan of your blog for years but I don’t think I ever commented. Just wanted to say keep it up and if you ever want to do a link exchange, hit me up.
I’m a huge fan of this blog and have been for quite a minute. I’ve been away from the online world for like a month but I came back to see that you had that really dope “Nostalgia” track posted. Love it. Scissorkick, it’s hard to not love you.

Great track.
Ahaha Seriously dude, thank you for not changing database or anything on your website! I remember listening this back in 2007 on scissorskick, hit the archives, BAM there it was, Marco Polo feat. Masta Ace, Cougar, To Rococo Rot, Outputmessage, everything was there. Listening to this brought me back to 2007, it’s always awesome to revisit the past, even if recent. Props.
Awesome comment Diogo. And this is exactly why i even post. To remind MYSELF of the stuff I love 3, 4, 5 years ago. The blog has always been one part diary, one part blog. Truth it, there’s like 5 years of older posts out in the web somewhere, pages I lost on the transition from Blogger to WordPress!
